Yachting Club Portorož hosted the Melges 24 Sailing Series Regatta over the last weekend. The regatta also served as the Italian Sailing Series season opener and Slovenian national Championship.
Although the weather provided a few challenges, the event ran incredibly well thanks to our brilliant team of collaborators.
Therefore a huge thank-you goes out to everyone involved in the regatta. From those on the committee who have been planning this event for months, to the race officials, international jury and the team on the water laying and running the courses. Also thanks to those on shore launching boats and managing on shore activities.
A special mention must go to Christopher Rast for generously sharing his expertise on the clinic and to Branko Parunov for his efforts to make the event possible & enjoyable. To Bojan Gale who excelled in his role as the Principle Race Officer, to the Marina Restaurant for keeping us all fed & hydrated, and to the international jury members Uroš Žvan, Joep Straus, Giorgio Davanzo, Vilmos Naray and Stane Černe for being on hand all day to ensure the smooth running of the event.
Finally thanks to Piret Salmistu for the faultless management of the press operations. It was great to see the rapid publishing of photos, videos and media releases on-line. We are also grateful to Andrea Carloni for capturing our story in pictures and to Simona Belobuono for amazing clips of the racing in Portorož.
Well done everyone! We hope that we can rely upon everyone’s assistance again next year.
Last but no least – we would like to thank all of the 26 teams for taking part in our Melges 24 European Sailing Series Regatta. Your racing was top notch and with several close finishes excitement levels were sky high. We very much hope that you will include our Melges 24 event in your sailing programme for 2017 and put an entry into your diaries now.
Until then, keep up the good work and take care.
