Melges 24 European Sailing Series tour started today in Portorož, where rain showers put a damper on racing day 1. As a consequence, the 22 teams competing needed to wait for the rain to calm down before their quest for supremacy could have begun.
The cold, dry and very gusty NE wind Bora filled the bay with the average speed of 18 knots early in the morning and stuck around long enough for three races to be completed.
The team who came ashore with the brightest start was Audi tron who opened up their weekend with devastatingly quick performances and three race wins. “It was a great start, although a bit cold. In the first race we managed to win with almost two minutes margin over the next team, which allowed us to test some new sails in the 2nd and 3rd race,” said the helm of Audi tron Riccardo Simoneschi.
In the Corinthian division FGF Sailing Team showed their worth taking two bullets and a third place. “The hosts worked hard to conduct high-quality racing and did a great job out on the water. As for the wind, it was shifty and very similar to the one we have on Lake Balaton, which enhanced my skills and probably gave me an advantage today,” revealed the formula of FGF’s success Robert Bakoczy while enjoying a well-deserved pizza on the club’s terrace.
Action in Portorož resumes Saturday at 11:00.
